Official Opening of Digital Doctoral Training Unit was held 30 September 2021 in Yerevan, Armenia.

Official Opening Event of Digital Doctoral Training Unit as a part of Digital Technology Centre took place during “Special Session on Digital Technologies in Erasmus+ Capacity Building Projects” of the workshop “Digital Technologies in Education and Management” at the 13th International Conference on Computer Science and Information Technologies (CSIT 2021), September 30, 2021, Yerevan, Armenia (https://csit.am/2021/index.php) .

The event was attended by representatives of the National Erasmus+ Office in Armenia, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, the Ministry of High Technology Industry, the Ministry of Economy, universities of Armenia, the NPUA administration, leading specialists and heads of IT companies, professors, students, as well as guests from foreign universities.

Welcome addresses were made by Chairman of the NPUA Board of Trustees Hovik Musayelyan, NPUA Rector Gor Vardanyan, Deputy Minister of High Technology Industry Davit Sahakyan, Programme Coordinator of National Erasmus + Office in Armenia Lana Karlova, Head of the Board of Sponsors of the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies and Electronics Arsen Taroyan, and Director of Digital Technology Centre Ruben Aghgashyan. Coordination Meeting - Riga, Latvia

The 7th meeting of the project MODEST was held from 18 to 19 December 2019 in Riga, Latvia.

The coordination meeting took place at University of Latvia. About twenty-nine participants from 7 countries and 14 universities attended the meeting. Coordinators focused on the outcomes of the first year. All project partners evaluated progress made towards the achievement of a project’s objectives, especially they were focused on the dissemination activities, reporting and the quality monitoring of meetings.

A. Markarov from YSU made a presentation of WP6 (Dissemination and Exploitation) about expected and accomplished dissemination activities, focused on types and means of distribution of information (open access materials available to a wide audience online in national languages)։ project presentations, articles and postings(websites, blogs, journals etc.)․ Discussions were made regarding to next year activities: when and where will organize intensive trainings and summer schools for students, staff and also about the content of summer school.

First intensive training of the year 2020 will be held in Moscow in March and the second one in Yerevan in April with the theme “ICT and virtual environment”. The first summer school for doctoral candidates will be organized in Krakow late June/early July. There will be a dissemination meeting in Yerevan in October. The special attention was paid on administrative and financial issues.

NPUA Annual Conference- Yerevan, Armenia

NPUA Annual Conference was held from 18 to 22 November 2019 in Yerevan.

In the framework of the conference, on November 20, 2019, at the National Polytechnic University of Armenia (NPUA), during the session of "METHODOLOGICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL ISSUES OF ENGINEERING EDUCATION" , NPUA professor Gevorg Margarov had speech with special report "Modernization of Doctoral Education by Applying Digital Technology”. Active discussions took place and participants expressed th point oftheir view regarding to modernization of doctoral education, particularly through using of state of the art digital technologies.

Additional (Unplanned) MODEST Dissemination Event in Yerevan, Armenia

12th International Conference on Computer Science and Information Technologies (CSIT 2019) held on September 23-27, 2019 in Yerevan, Armenia.

Within the framework of the Conference, on September 24, 2019, the National Polytechnic University of Armenia (NPUA) hosted a special workshop on “Digitalisation of Education and Management”, in which more than 40 specialists took part.

NPUA professor Gevorg Margarov briefly presented the Erasmus+ Project “Modernization of Doctoral Education in Science and Improvement of Teaching Methodologies” (MODEST). The project aroused great interest and substantive discussion not only after the presentation, but also at the panel discussion, which concluded the workshop. In particular, some preliminary proposals for cooperation in the form of joint implementation of doctoral education were expressed.

Site Visits to EU partner universities

Modest partners went on research visits to Finland, Latvia, United Kingdom and Poland.

From 17th of June till 11th of July, 2019 project participants were involved in the different activities such as workshops, trainings and seminars.They were got acquainted about education systems in European Union countries with special attention to the organisation of doctoral education and doctoral programmes, to see facilities of EU partner universities, as well as to continue ongoing activities of MODEST project.

According to the workplan of the project during the site visits to EU partner institutions were also coordination and management meetings.

Meeting in Krakow, Poland

July 9-11, 2019 Krakow, Poland

The meeting took place at the Jagiellonian University of Krakow. During the meeting, the participants listened to the presentation on ethical issues in science and education. MODEST project partners gave their point of views about doctoral education, had discussions about existing virtual platforms in their universities and also about Quality Assurance system, tools and procedures. The participants visited to Jagiellonian University E-learning Centre.

The meeting held on 1st and 2nd of July,2019 in London, UK

The meeting took place at the Brunel University in London.During the meeting, the participants got to know about Doctoral Education in UK and at the Brunel University London and also about effective supervision of PhD students in UK. The participants discussed about PhD systems in partner countries and listened to the report/presentation about the education system in Armenia (a part of WP1)

The meeting took place at University of Latvia. During the meeting, the participants heard presentations about WP1 “Analysis of doctoral education in Science in European Higher Education Area and Partner Countries and soft skills intensive training courses”. In addition to the presentations, the participants had the opportunity to discuss about the role of doctoral training centers and also about the role of soft skills in doctoral studies and training session.

Meeting in Helsinki,Finland

The meeting held on 17th and 18th of June, 2019 in Helsinki,Finland

According to the workplan of MODEST project, research visit took place at University of Helsinki.The meeting included extensive training programme.

Many aspects of doctoral education in University of Helsinki were presented. The following topics such as new teaching methods, the organization of doctoral education and programmes, and administration of doctoral schools were discussed.

Working Meeting in Yerevan, Armenia

Two-day working meeting held on 2-3 May 2019 in Yerevan, Armenia

Within the framework of the Erasmus + MODEST project, working meetings were held in Yerevan on 2- 3 May. The universities of the RA partners, which are participating in MODEST project hosted in Armenia on a working visit the project manager, representatives of the Latvian University and Russian Federation partner of Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.

Participants of the meeting discussed the peculiarities of doctoral education. Vice-rector of NPUA Prof. Grigoryan introduced the main components which is included in doctoral study program in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Armenia.The participants of the meeting made presentations, which were accompanied by active discussions. During the meeting Prof. Margarov presented on the progress of ongoing activities and also the Work group leaders reviewed organizational issues.



WP1 Kick off Meeting- Moscow, Russia

On the 24th of January, 2019 Moscow, Russia hosted the kick-off meeting of the ERASMUS+ MODEST Project

The kick-off meeting of the Erasmus+ Project Modernization of Doctoral Education in Science and Improvement of Teaching Methodologies (MODEST) was held in January 2019 at Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Partner Countries that were present at the meeting, were Armenia, England, Russia, Finland, Poland, Latvia and Belarus.

During the meeting, project coordinator presented the aims and objectives, participants discussed the researching activities, the collaboration with other EU initiatives and the development of Network environment, as well as administrative and organization issues.
